Project Life//Use Song Lyrics

As my oldest approaches turning 13 in just 10 days, I have sat and thought a lot about what I want her to know. What I remember from my teen years. What I can tell her that will help her teen years be as easy as possible. What I can do to let her know that I will always be there for her. I am so very thankful for the relationship that we have now as she is very open with me. Tells me things I am often surprised to hear, things that are very deep and have lead to some very good life conversations. We laugh together and cry together, but she still knows that I am Mumzie (she made that up and has called me it for years) and not her friend. I am sure a major part of this is our personalities, but I also hope that part of it is just me doing something right in this thing we call Motherhood. I love being her Mumzie more that she will ever know.

I have always loved the song “Perfect” from P!NK and thought that it was a perfect song to use to document how I feel about McKenna right now.  This is a 6×8 insert and a 4×6 card that will go right into my Project Life® album.

I used One Little Bird’s Halcyon Digitals  from The Lilypad  for most of my 6×8 insert. The “Hello Perfection” is the 4×6 that will go in between the 6×8 spread. That card is from One Little Birds Lemon Drop line and can be found here. That card is simply perfect for this spread. I also used the brand new 6×8 templates from Little Lamm Co newest release. LOVE THEM!

The wood veneer and acrylic pieces are all from my shop. I have a bowl of extras that I make when engraving and cutting just for me. I love being about to look through the bowl to find the perfect pieces to embellish my projects.

Just a close up of my sweet McKenna and the Lyrics of the song that I put on the Layout. I love using full 6×8 photos with text in my albums.

I am so excited by how this turned out. Thank you so much for stopping by and think about using song lyrics in your own album to document something. Let me know in the comments if you do so that I can visit your blog.

Design Team//Miriam Rodriguez

Today I am featuring another one of my Design Team girls on the blog. This week, Miriam Rodriguez is up. I adore Miriam’s style so much and have since long before she joined my Design Team. I find myself scraplifting her work often. And we both have a strong love for coffee, Starbucks, awesome mugs and Target!

Miriam has a blog, but like me, uses Instagram more than her blog (this is something I am working on…more blog posts, but back to Miriam). Here is the bio from her blog where she shares a little about herself:

“I am a mommy to four wonderful children ranging in ages 3-22. I’ve been married to my amazing guy for 23 years. We live in Texas and I am currently a stay at home mom which I absolutely enjoy (most days). I love spending time with my family, road trips, baking, project life and pretty much anything crafty.”

Miriam used the Coffee Lover’s set to document her love of coffee below. She is doing “A Year of Cups” in photos this year and the coffee embellishments work perfect for these photos.

Miriam used the new Lucky Me, Basically Basics in Gold and the Twinkling Stars on this beautiful insert documenting how lucky she is to have such an incredible family. Love this so much. What a beautiful family she has!

In her title page for 2015, Miriam included the “2015” from the Frozen set.  I just love all the see thru elements on her title page, don’t you too?

Ohhh!! Look at these gorgeous Project Life® cards that Miriam embellished. They are a favorite of mine too. She used the Frozen and Passions set. Black, White, Pink and Gold… yes please!

I am so grateful to have Miriam on my team. She is a sweetheart and anyone lucky enough to call her a friend is truly blessed. The fact that she loves coffee, Project Life®, Target and Starbucks just makes her all the more special to me! Her contributions to Color Cast Designs are appreciated so much. Please go check out her blog and Instagram account for further inspiration.

Around Here//February Edition

2015-02-16 06.20.37-2Around here…

Riley tested for her Black Belt in Kempo Karate. She kicked and punched her way thru the grilling 6 hour test, broke a brick with her hand and came home with her Black Belt. I am so stinking proud of my little ninja.

McKenna has stared doing some babysitting for us so that she can learn the ropes. She has been watching Kiefer for short periods of time for a while as something that you do when you are part of a family. But recently, we have had her come over when she is at her Dad’s to watch just Kiefer (Riley stays at her Dad’s) and we pay her for this. She loves the one on one time with her brother and the extra money in her pocket is a huge bonus.

Kiefer is all signed up for Kindergarten to start in the fall. We debated and debated on half day or full day and in the end decided on full day. He is ready. He needs it. His little mind is exploding with all that he is learning in Pre-K and we want to keep that momentum going next fall. I’m not going to lie, a little piece of my heart broke just signing him up. My last baby will be at school all day and not with me in just 6 short months. I am just going to devour every moment of just us until then.

I set a goal to do 2 new crafts a month for 2015 with Kellie from Give a Girl a Blog. I have done one of my two crafts for February. I set a goal for myself to learn to crochet. I watched the video that Kellie posted  on her blog here for these adorable hearts and made 5 of those. Each one getting better and better. I then made my first coaster that actually looked like a coaster. I see lots of crocheting in my future. I love it! I just got the latest edition of Mollie Makes and am planning on trying the Granny Squares in there.

Our house is a little messier and unorganized than I like. But I love that the reason behind this is because my store has become busier and I have been distracted by that. Busy making new designs, cutting, engraving, boxing and more. I need to find balance so the cobwebs don’t start collecting. I don’t like a messy house…it makes me feel, well, messy.

We traded in our Acura for a Cadillac SRX. In doing that we decided that the SRX should become my everyday vehicle and that Keith should take the Jeep as his everyday driver. He is thrilled. He loves my Jeep…well, now his Jeep. I love that we still have it and will get to continue our Jeeping adventures this summer and fall. And I love that I am driving something that is more practical for me and the kids. And it has bluetooth…a nice bonus!

Hope February is going well for all of you!

Design Team//Jen Carlson

Next up on my blog posts featuring my Design Team girls is Jen Carlson. Watch out, she is one up and coming scrapper! Jen does both pocket style scrapbooking and full page layouts. Her style is graphic, clean and so gorgeous. I love it! She is very consistent with her style, which is something else I adore!

Here is a bit about Jen I pulled from her blog :

“Hi, my name is Jen Carlson and I’m a 38 year old Process Engineer by day.  I reside in Northern California, but hold tight to my roots in St. Louis, MO.  I’m a huge Cardinals baseball fan and take a lot of slack for that being surrounded by Giants fans.  I love my 3 furkids Beer, Gracie (sometimes), and Winston.  In my free time I love to challenge myself with various skill levels of cooking and baking experiments.  I post most of these on my Instagram account and occasionally update my cooking blog.  On the weekends I tend to hang out with my boyfriend or friends in San Francisco, searching out the latest brunch spot or beach view.  I probably curse too much and should clean my house more often.  But I do live life to the fullest and can say I am happy.”

The first layout of Jen’s that I am going to showcase is her beautiful winter layout featuring the clear snowflakes with stitching under them, looks like snow falling. So gorgeous!

I absolutely love how Jen used the Chunky Piggy on this spread about her brunch with friends. The Pig on the almost-edible-bacon photo is seriously so good! I might just have to snatch up this idea and use it on my own bacon photo!

Black, White and Gold…YES please!! The pieces Jen used on these Journaling cards come from the Passions kit and are perfect with the beautiful black and white cards from Paislee Press.

Jen is doing a 4×4 album for her 2014 December Daily®. She is keeping the entire album consistent with Black, White, Gold and Aqua. It is pure gorgeousness! She used the “twinkle” from the Twinkle, Twinkle kit on the spread below.

Coffee Lovers kit and One Little Bird Journaling cards, need I say more? I am so envious of the stitching that Jen includes on her cards. Adds great texture and the perfect finishing touch!

Jen’s love for her furry friends runs deep. I know that by all the awesome photos she takes of her fur babies. I love these Journaling cards she made up to have on hand for when she gets the perfect photo to go with them. She used the Love Heart set to adorn this oh-so cute cards. And looky there, a paw right at her feet in the photo.

I am so blessed to have Jen on my Team. We too have formed a great friendship. I know that with her amazing work, it won’t be long and she will be getting calls for other Design Teams left and right. She is currently on the Color Cast Design Team as well as Kellie Winnell’s Design Team for Kellie Stamps (whom I also adore to the moon and back). To see more of Jen’s amazing work, check out her blog, “The Paper Proccess” and her inspiring Instagram feed (@jecarl). Thank you for everything you do Jen! xxx
